Hairy Vetch
Hairy vetch is one of the most winter-hardy legumes. More winter-hardy than common vetch, hairy vetch may survive temperatures of -15°C or lower without cover. This cultivar has a good root system, with a taproot that extends 30-90cm into the soil. This taproot allows vetch to thrive in dry conditions. Adding hairy vetch to a cover crop mix can lower the C:N ratio of the entire mix, helping to provide nitrogen for the following crop.
